Trauma
Trauma often holds us back in life, and I can help you move forward - without the heaviness of your past. I will help you understand the biological basis of trauma, including how it manifests in the body, and explore ways it has been negatively impacting your life in the now. Through a clinically backed approach like EMDR, healing from trauma is possible.
EMDR
EMDR is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy. It has been thoroughly researched for over 30 years and is an effective, accelerated treatment for trauma and a wide range of other diagnoses and issues. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation of the brain through eye movement, audio, or tappers to assist your own brain in reprocessing negative events and beliefs. It is not necessary to share the details of the experience with me, which is fantastic for those who do not wish to or are uncomfortable verbally processing their experiences. EMDR is similar to the processing our brain does during REM sleep. Maladaptive memories and negative self beliefs will be targeted in order for the brain to add new information, new associations, and new beliefs.
After EMDR, what once perhaps felt like an all encompassing experience when past or current trauma was activated, becomes “further away” as many of my clients have described. Think the difference between reliving trauma in the moment, verses looking at a distant black and white photograph of it.
EMDR can be used for a variety of mental health conditions including eating disorders, substance use, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, and more.
